Hi, I’m Kayla — the founder of Just The Hem.
I was born and raised right here in Topeka, KS, and although life took our family on many moves over the last decade, we eventually found our way back home and planted our roots here again. My husband and I have been married for 13 years, and together we’re raising our six wonderful children who keep our days full, loud, joyful, and meaningful.
My Story
My Story
My journey into Craniosacral Fascial Therapy began after the birth of my third baby, when I first learned about tongue ties. I had struggled with nursing my first two children, but back then there just wasn’t much information or support around ties or oral restrictions. When my third arrived, I knew I needed to do something different.
Before this season of motherhood, I spent several years working in the medical field as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and later apprenticed as a midwife for a year and a half. Those experiences gave me a deep respect for the body, birth, and the importance of truly supporting both moms and babies — not just physically, but as whole people.
During that time, my midwife recommended we see one of her clients who practiced CFT. After witnessing the changes in my baby, I was completely sold. As I learned more about ties, oral restrictions, fascia, airway development, and the incredible ways CFT supports the body, my love for this work only grew.
I continued seeking out CFT for my next three children as well, seeing firsthand how deeply it supported their comfort, development, and overall well-being.
Eventually, I knew I needed to learn this modality — not only to help my own family, but to bring this gentle, effective, and deeply supportive care to other families in our community. In 2025, I trained in The Gillespie Approach – Craniosacral Fascial Therapy in Austin, TX for both adults and children, and completed additional training focused specifically on infants.
My Philosophy and Values
The body is beautifully designed.
I believe God created our bodies with incredible wisdom and intention. With gentle support and space to unwind, the body often knows exactly how to release tension and restore balance.
Healing should be gentle and respectful.
My approach is calm, patient, and never forceful — honoring the nervous system, the person’s comfort, and the way God designed our bodies to respond to gentleness rather than pressure.
Everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and cared for.
Whether I'm working with a newborn, a child, or an adult, I aim to create a peaceful and safe space where people can breathe, feel heard, and receive care without judgment or rush.
Care should be accessible.
Because I believe every person is made in the image of God and worthy of care, I offer multiple session options and created the From the Hem Giving Fund to serve families and individuals who need financial support.
My faith shapes the way I serve.
The name Just The Hem comes from the biblical story of a woman who reached out to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment in faith and found healing. That story reflects the heart of my work — a reminder that even the smallest touch, offered with compassion and hope, can bring comfort and meaningful change.
